A Taste of Track

Today I decided, after a 31 minute warmup, to incorporate some track work and see how my legs and feet would respond. As my route took me through North Andover, I made my way over to the Middle School track (Alvah G. Hayes football field) and decided to do 4 x 400 with a 200 jog rest and 2 x 200 with a jog across the football field as my recovery. Things went well as I hit 85/83/82/82 and 36/35. Finished up with another 30 minutes of easy running. My legs and feet feel good and I am encouraged to keep going back to the track each week in preparation for some future races.

    Seems like a good day. I hope to get things going soon too. I did drills earlier this week and could barely move the next few days. What is your next big to do?

    Thanks, Justin. With your recent racing it is understandable that you feel a bit off but you will be back soon. I hope to race on Thanksgiving and a xc race at the end of the month (Andover Country Club). I just really want to put on more miles and be ready for next season but I hope to race indoors/snowshoe over the winter. See you soon.

    The track is lot nicer than the old days, right? Are you racing the Feaster 5?

    Hey Sully nice Springsteen pictures. The track is certainly an upgrade from the cinder days of the 70's and 80's (and 60's) but the surface is in need of minor repairs. Feaster 8k is a possibility how about you?

    I think I am going to run a 5K in Brighton on Thanksgiving. I've run it before, and it's a little easier than heading up to Andover. But one of my all time favorite races was the 1985 Feaster 5 - the one in the big snowstorm. You ran that one, right? I actually slipped & fell turning onto the final straight, and the guy behind me cracked up.

    No, I did not race that year. I do remember the snowstorm. Wasn't that the first race ever? Race winner was Sammy Hilario, Lawrence MA,

    Yes, I believe Sammy was the winner. I got the year wrong, though; blizzard was in '89.
