Sunday 10/31/10
AM 1 hour and 40 minutes on the roads as I missed the trail run at Bradley Palmer. Solid 13.5 miles with strong headwind at times. I had an ahole in a pickup truck not give me the right of way at Zion Hill intersection so we exchanged a few choice words. Some people really suck. 68 mile week.

Saturday 10/16/10
AM Last minute (no warmup) decision to race Baystate Memorial 5k in Lowell MA. Thanks to the RD, they took my $20 and let me run without a bib #. Hit the mile in 5:45 (excessive wind in our face entire way) as I made my way into 3rd place behind some speed demon (Justin Dedonnetto) and 40 year old Eric "the keg" Beauschene. I hung in 3rd the entire way and hit 2 miles in 11:22 (5:37) as we must of had some tailwind coming down Route 110. I was tiring the last mile as we weaved our way through the Mill City. I hit mile 3 in 16:55 (5:33) and hit the line in 17:24 (29 seconds last .1) Felt strong and very happy with effort. 2 mile warmdown. 5 mile day.

Tuesday 10/13/10
AM 30 minutes after 1st bus stop/ 33 minutes after 2nd bus stop -- 8 miles.
Sunday's 5k was about what I expected given my current condition and lack of speed workouts and also following the 3 hour duathlon last weekend. I did battle with DD for most of the race as we hit the mile in 5:21 and the 2 mile in 11:02 (5:41). The winding roads and strong headwind might of played a factor but certainly not much as the leaders were in the low 15's (Bob Wiles CMS winner). I did all I could to both hold off DD and try to gain on DV as he whipped the masters field in 16:45. My 17:05 (6:03 final 1.1 -5:30/ 32 seconds) was good for 2nd master overall as I picked up $75 for 2nd in an age-graded 15:20. Can someone explain what that means?

Sunday 10/3/10
Drove up to Newport NH and competed in the Pinacle Challenge (a 4 stage "duathlon") as a solo competitor. I got beat up pretty badly but managed to finish the event in 3:09:11. The 5 mile (8k) run on the roads was the highlight of the event as I ran 28:55 but once I got on the mountain bike I had tremendous difficulty remembering how to ride on technical trails and proceeded to fall about 8-10 times. I lost a bunch of time so once I got on the road bike the 13.75 miles was a lesson in not to fall further behind but, alas that is what happened. All of the relay teams had finished and about one competitor was left on the course as I hobbled in to the finish line after the 3.5 mile trail run. This race has it all and should you consider competing in it, be prepared.
